Nissan thinks of producing a cheaper line of cars

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Committed to achieving greater heights and expanding horizons, Nissan Motor Company Ltd. has decided to look into creating a car that only costs about $3,000 as an answer to a rival car company’s plans of making one.

Providing unique, innovative, and at the same time low-cost vehicles is a challenge for Nissan according to Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn. The Brazilian-native Ghosn said that producing such cars is a challenge for the company. To add, he believes that such cars have a big potential in the automobile market.

Nissan’s alliance with Renault, which is a French automaker, will further help the former in achieving this goal. Contacting suppliers in Indian and analyzing all aspects of producing the less expensive cars is the first step the Nissan-Renault tandem has taken. If plans would push through, two different versions of the affordable car, one for Nissan and one for Renault, will be manufactured. Another global low-cost vehicle manufacturer is Italian automaker Fiat.

Convinced that there are a lot of avenues for continued growth, Nissan will continue to innovate to enrich people’s lives and meet its customers’ needs – one is through manufacturing affordable vehicles in the near future.

Nissan’s safer vehicles via message alerts

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

To achieve a safer environment on the road, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. is gearing up an “anti-drunk driving” campaign by incorporating a message alert system into Nissan vehicles’ navigation systems starting end of June for the Japan market.

Nissan, which has been in the automobile industry for 75 years, takes the step to lessen accidents in Japan involving Nissan vehicles through the updated CARWINGS navigation systems. The CARWINGS navigation systems was first installed on the Nissan Skyline, which was released in November of last year, either as a standard feature on certain models or as a manufacturer option.

Immediately after the vehicle’s ignition is turned on, the message alert “Do not drive after drinking!” will appear for about five seconds the navigation panel between 5:30 pm and 5:00 am. As a reminder for the rest of the day, “Let’s continue safe driving today” will appear between 5:00 am and 5:30 pm.

The Japan-established automaker has been an active supporter for safe driving for years. Nissan has been raising public awareness and educating drivers to the hazards caused by drinking and driving. The maker of Pathfinder and Navara has been an avid supporter of Hello Safety which is held three times a year in Japan. Educational kits on traffic safety, which includes ways to help prevent drunk driving, is distributed to kindergarten aged children in Japan. In the US, Nissan also supports Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Strides for Change charity walks, which is concerned with child passenger safety. The company, through their committed employees, conduct safety demonstrations and provide participants with a quick reference guide on the proper way to install car safety seats for children up to age 10. This charity walks sponsored by Nissan has generated millions of dollars to stop drunk driving.

In the upcoming years, Nissan aims to build safer vehicles that are equipped with advanced safety technologies. Reducing half of the number of accidents in Japan involving Nissan vehicles by 2015 is just one of the long-term goals of Nissan. In addition, Nissan has engaged on the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) project which is aimed at reducing road accidents via the analysis of traffic data collected from on-the-road vehicles and traffic beacons. The automaker, with the government and private sectors, also sees this approach as the first step to achieve its long-term goal of a safe driving environment for all.

Nissan pushes through developing smaller and lighter car batteries

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Nissan Motor Company is looking intently into developing smaller and lighter car batteries said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn in press conference held in Bangkok, Thailand on Wednesday.

Seeing the need for electric cars or green vehicles as well as for hybrids, Nissan and other automakers are neck-to-neck in creating viable lithium ion batteries, which are already being used in laptops and cellular phones. The tricky part is developing such lithium batteries that could actually handle the rigorous demands of a car engine.

With the alarming pollution caused by cars despite catalytic converters and higher fuel prices, The Brazilian-born Nissan CEO Ghosn believes that it is already time to invest in green technologies such as electric cars.

“We continue on the lithium ion battery. We think for us it’s a competitive advantage,” said Ghosn. “We have a lot of technology is this area, and we think this is going to be very helpful, not only for hybrids but also for electric cars.”

Nissan has stayed behind the heels of perennial rivals Toyota and Honda in developing hybrid vehicles. In the advent of environment friendly technologies in the automobile industry, Nissan has recently opened a new tech center in Japan. The maker of Frontier and Sentra believes that electric cars will not only help solve global warming, but could also be the answer for high fuel price in the market.

“If you have an efficient battery for a hybrid, why not go all the way and go for electric cars?” he asked. “It has zero emissions of anything.”

Although electric cars are friendlier to the environment and would save on fuel, these cars are rather expensive, difficult to recharge, and travel limited distance, automobile companies are still in the hunt for developing these. To answer these future problems, Nissan has been negotiating a deal to put a fleet of of electric cars in the Japanese market in cooperation with the local governments, which would need to provide necessary infrastructure such as charging stations.

It will take time before the actual cars will be produced, but the wait should be worth it.

The new PRO 4×4 Nissan Titan, which is the latest addition in the truck line of Nissan, proved to be a good choice for international racer Carl Renezeder as he finished on top in the Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR) in Crandon, Wisconsin.

In front of a massive audience at the Crandon International Off-Road Raceway, Renezeder, who is also the title-holder for the Chairman’s Cup, managed three podium finishes using the Nissan Titan. The debuting 4×4 Nissan truck went up for the thrilling 4×4 and 2-wheel drive high-horsepower trucks battle all the way to the final lap.

Renezeder’s Lucas Oil Nissan Titan was brought up to the challenge of overpowering racers Kent Brascho in a Goodyear Chevrolet and Marty Hart in a Maxxis Ford, to name a few. The Titan’s 4×4 high-horsepower managed podium finishes in rounds three and four of the WSORR series.

Titan’s V8 engine has about 317 horsepower with a 5.6 liter endurance, pushing it an edge to the other 4×4 trucks that participated in the racing battle. In addition to its superb engine power, the Titan’s 385 lbs of torque served as the anchor as the truck would swerve along curvy tracks.

By July 14-15, the race war continues in Bark River, Michigan. This two-day off-road battle will serve as the crucial stepping stone for racers seeking inaugural WSORR Series Championship titles.

For seven decades or so, Nissan has always believed in making things better for its users and enthusiasts alike. True to form, Nissan has recently made a London local happier with a Nissan Pathfinder Aventura.

The Pathfinder Aventura worth £30,000 went to the lucky mother of two, Sarah Ryan during the Nissan Adventure Film Festival (AFF) held in Vue Cinema in Fulham Broadway. Among the film fans who flocked the cinema, Ryan was hailed the most lucky after being drawn to take home the new Nissan 4×4. Each visitor who watched the film received a chance for a free draw to win one of a huge selection of prizes, including the Pathfinder Aventura as the top prize.

I have never won anything. Even my husband didn’t believe me at first. Given we have two year old twins, the Pathfinder is a joy to have, especially not having to bend down to get them in and out of their seats,” said Ryan.

The Pathfinder Aventura has a 5.6-L V8 engine and a real off-road capability to name a few. Not only that, this Nissan 4×4 has a standard 3-row seating for seven fit for a growing family.

We’re delighted that Sarah has won the Pathfinder and we’re certain she’ll enjoy driving it. Based on the popularity of the Nissan Adventure Film Festival last year, we look forward to bringing the event back later this year,” Nissan London 4×4 brand manager John Parslow said.

Nissan was the sponsor of United Kingdom’s first digitally projected AFF. The film festival brought action-packed films to the mainstream by screening a five-night program of award-winning adventure films from top film producers, including Long Way Down that features actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman.

For film enthusiasts, The Nissan Adventure Film Festival will be returning in 2007.

Nissan 2009 Skyline GT-R: making a visible mark

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Rolling since 1933, Japan’s Nissan Motor Co. has been committed to the changing innovation in the automobile industry. From the first mass-produced Japanese vehicle called Datsuns in the 1950s, Nissan continues to create vehicles that are unique and at the same time, carry an automotive style that would never fail to wow its avid patronizers.

Nissan has nearly doubled the number of models offered and nearly doubled in sales. The automobile company continues to move in a positive direction for their avid patronizers and enthusiasts alike.

Geared toward a better driving experience, Nissan has just added another innovation under its wing – the Nissan 2009 Skyline GT-R. Spectators of the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England had the first glance of the latest addition in the Japan-established automobile line last June 23. The GT-R completed the festival’s hill climb twice on Saturday and another two the following day.

Despite numerous runs in the festival, Nissan made no effort to publicize its latest addition. The 2009 Skyline GT-R was conspicuously not included in the event announcer’s script. Every other car was formally introduced before its ascent, in except GT-R. The 2009 Skyline GT-R went up the hill silently as the speakers remained silent. Aside from the eerie silence of the speakers, the GT-R was virtually inaudible compared to the rest of the participating automobiles.

Nissan has managed to keep enthusiasts intrigued in the seemingly inaudible glide of GT-R. The car is set to debut this fall.
