Nissan Student Leadership Program now on its 3rd Year

After more than seven decades in the automobile industry, Nissan still has the same goal – to enrich people’s lives. This global vision of the Japan-established automaker with its branches world wide fulfills this not only through its distinct products and services, but also by improving the quality of life in the communities which Nissan operates.

In North America, Nissan USA’s annual Nissan Student Government Leadership Program (NSGLP) will be held on July 29 in the campus of Tougaloo College. Now on its third year, NSGLP serves as an opportunity for 60 student government presidents from historically black colleges and universities in the US to prepare for corporate leadership. Activities which will enhance the student’s self-awareness, self-management, social-political awareness, and interpersonal relationships will be included in the three-day leadership training. Distinct speakers for this year’s NSGLP includes Valerie Montgomery Rice, M.D., nationally renowned educator, clinician and researcher in women’s reproductive health at Meharry Medical College School of Medicine, Reverend Dr. Nelson Rivers - corporate Chief Operating Officer of the NAACP, Gregory Anderson, writer of the No. 1 Box Office Hit “Stomp the Yard” and former NSGLP corporate participant and American Idol Winner Ruben Studdard. The all-expense-paid program will only accommodate the first 60 schools to respond to Nissan’s invitation.

The overwhelming success of NSGLP has made Nissan to offer the enlightening experience once again. Nissan is a firm believer that the experience and lessons the student leaders will be able to absorb in this program will help them to become great leaders in their respective campuses and communities. Nissan USA, which was established 1960 in Gardena, California, aspires to help create a solid foundation for a successful career in Corporate America.

“The Nissan Student Government Leadership Program is an outstanding hands- on opportunity for college leaders to prepare for corporate leadership. We’ve gathered some of the brightest minds in the country to design a program that is meaningful and has high impact for the student participants,” said Stephanie Valdez Streaty, Nissan North America Sr. Manager, Philanthropy & Diversity Communications and the team leader for the NSGLP.

Working closely with select groups like the historically black colleges and universities, allows Nissan to determine the best way to render help to meet each organization’s needs. Moreover, in making this positive move, the automobile company contributes to the betterment of nation. True to form, Nissan’s passion and commitment truly is to touch lives and make things better.
