Nissan develops self-lifting gas pedal

Nissan is certainly right on their track towards a future filled with safer cars as after their announcement of their development on cars with pedestrian protection and of alcohol detection system, they now continue on with a self-lifting gas pedal.

This self-lifting gas pedal will soon be offered some Nissan models and its function is to warn drivers of probable collisions. It will self-lift and the cars will automatically stop in response to this warning unless drivers continue on pressing the accelerator.

This new Nissan technology is a combination of radar sensors and a computer system that would measure the car’s speed and its distance to the vehicle in front, as reported by Nissan Motor Co. on Monday. The Nissan models equipped with this innovative safety system will be available this year in its home country, Japan, and next year in US.

According to Nissan’s Senior Manager Yousuke Akatsu, their idea is to make a car that’s able to detect danger on its own, muchlike an animal, so that both the driver and the engine could work together to prevent accidents. “It is almost like riding a horse, the way the rider can have a dialogue with the horse,” he said.

Akatsu explained that as soon as the driver heed the warning of the gas pedal and they lift off their foot it, the brakes will automatically kick in to, bringing the car to a halt.
