Make way for the improved Nissan X-Trail

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Nissan fans should brace themselves for the arrival of the new and improved X-trail.

The Japanese automaker has come up with ways to entice new followers to the midsize sports utility vehicle (SUV), as well as to keep the old ones.

The Nissan X-Trail is a top-selling SUV, with 70,000 units sold since its introduction six years ago.

Improved would be an understatement to the new version of the X-Trail. The general appearance of the new version underwent only little changes. Although Nissan retained its muscular look, the X-Trail now has become more spacious, easier on the pocket, more powerful, and better equipped.

Carsguide.com notes the excellent visibility of the refined SUV, thanks to the Nissan parts such as its sloping bonnet and headlight markers. It also has a lower boot floor due to the modified suspension.

The X-Trail offers better Nissan parts and features inside, adding to passenger comfort. The armrests are padded up. There are six cup holders, four of which can be heated or cooled by the vehicle’s air conditioning system.

The upgraded version is powered by a 2.5-liter engine.

As for its all-wheel drive system, Nissan has provided an option between two-wheel, automatic all-wheel mode, or four-wheel drive lock. The driver has to select one of them by making a dial on the center console.

The Nissan X-Trail, which will be available on sale starting November 1, costs $31,990 for the base ST trim and $35,990 for the ST-L.

Clean Diesel Technology on Nissan X-Trail Diesel Model

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

Nissan seems to be proving to the world that it is indeed committed on safeguarding the environment as the Japanese automaker made two announcements on Monday regarding their diesel technology commitment. Nissan announced that they will be introducing a new clean diesel technology to be incorporated in their X-Trail SUV in Japan. This will be launched in Japan on the fall season of 2008. They also said that their new clean diesel technology has a great potential in meeting California’s emission standard for super-ultralow-emission vehicles, which is one of the hardest green rating to reach in the world.

Nissan has not yet fully released the details on their X-Trail Diesel model but they said that they’ll be disclosing its performance and specifications when its already close to the time of its introduction. However, it has not yet on Nissan’s plans to offer this to the American market. But they did say that the X-Trails diesel will be based on the “M9R engine co-developed with Alliance-partner Renault.” They also said that it will be using high-performance catalysts and engine management technologies. Nissan said, “This clean diesel engine is being developed to lower exhaust gas emissions to levels comparable to those of new emissions standards in Japan.”

The second announcement that Nissan made is that their new clean diesel technology will “be able to achieve cleaner diesel emissions in future vehicles that will meet the stringent SULEV standards set by the state of California,” as the automaker also considers their US consumers to be of great importance. Nissan released a statement saying, “Nissan plans to do further research and development of the clean diesel technology for commercial applications in its future products.”

Nissan said that they plan to use three devices which are the high-performance catalysts, advanced engine control systems and a “modulated-kinetic combustion” in order to decrease the diesel emissions.

They said that their initial plan is not to sell this soon-to-be new model in the United States but considering that they put great importance to their US consumers, the US auto market could still hope to drive this X-Trail diesel model.

Nissan will introduce new SUVs in China on 2008

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Reports have it that Dongfeng Nissan is planning on launching two new models which are the Nissan SUV Qashgai and the X-Trail. These two will be produced in the joint venture of the Japanese automaker in 2008.

Nissan Qashgai

NISSAN QASHGAI

Nissan X-Trail

NISSAN X-TRAIL

These two models which are newly-developed have already been released in the auto market of European countries and already experienced great sales. These two new models are actually different SUV segment models which have different market prices. The company will rename these models once they are produced in China.

Nissan’s plan for the Qashgai to be introduced by the beginning of next year. They also plan to launch its debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show with its price costing 150,000 yuan.

By the second half of the year, Nissan plans on launching their X-Trail. Exporting these two models from overseas market will now be ceased because the production is now localized.

China lacks 2.5-liter China-made engines and so these two models will be powered by original engines that were produced by overseas market.

The Qashgai was launched in February and since then it has already sold 45,000 of its units in the overseas market. But its production capacity wasn’t able to meet the demands of the market and so Nissan transferred some of its production to their other plants in Japan.

Another plan of Dongfeng Nissan is to introduce other models as well such as the Maxima and Murano.

The sales of Nissan’s hot products still haven’t reached their expected sales for the first half of this year but although that is the case, Dongfeng Nissan plans on boosting up its annual sales target to 400,000 units.
